Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday claimed that gangsters who abducted people with threats of extortion without regard to law and order are now wetting their pants after being punished by the court.
Addressing a gathering after the “bhoomi pujan” of a bottling plant here, Adityanath said people are seeing that those who had earlier shown little respect for law and order are now running for their lives .
“When the court sentenced him, his wet pants were visible. People are watching it. Mafia terrorized people, threatened industrialists with extortion, kidnapped businessmen. But today they are scared out of their wits and running for their lives.”
His remarks come days after an MP/MLA court convicted gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and two others in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and sentenced them to life imprisonment. This was Ahmed’s first conviction, though there are over 100 cases registered against him.
The 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MP was brought by road from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail for the hearing of the case in Prayagraj. Before leaving the jail in a police convoy, Ahmed said he feared he might be killed. “Hatya, hatya (murder, murder),” Ahmed said outside the jail.
During the long journey, Ahmed’s vehicle was stopped in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district so that he could attend a bowel movement. There, he was asked by reporters if he was scared, to which he replied, “Kahe ka darr” (What scared).
After the murder of Umesh Pal, a witness to the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in broad daylight in Prayagraj in January 2005, the Uttar Pradesh administration started cracking down on his associates and gang members.
After this ruthless criminal act, Adityanath vowed in the state assembly that he would wipe out the mafia.
In his address on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that everyone’s safety is the responsibility of the government and it is the government’s resolve to bring prosperity in the lives of the citizens.
According to a press statement issued by the state government, the Chief Minister said that six years ago, goons and mafia used to openly threaten and kidnap businessmen and the state was known for riots and anarchy, but today all such elements have been silenced. Has gone.
He said, ‘This year when riots were happening in some states of the country on the occasion of Ram Navami, there was complete peace in Uttar Pradesh. Thirty-three lakh people visited Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram, and more than 1000 processions were taken out on the occasion, but no untoward incident took place. Instead, Hindus and Muslims showered flowers on the processions.”
On April 6, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, more than 500 processions were taken out peacefully in the state. The Chief Minister said that bombs are no longer hurled at processions during religious festivals in Uttar Pradesh, flowers have been showered instead.
Adityanath said that 25 crore people of Uttar Pradesh today believe in the double engine government promoting development, investment and employment.
He said that due to this belief, Uttar Pradesh has received investment proposals worth Rs 35 lakh crore in the Global Investors Summit. He said that the Chief Minister’s Office itself monitors all the online facilities and incentives available to the investors.
Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh today boasts of excellent connectivity of all kinds.
“Purvanchal and Bundelkhand Expressways have opened while work is underway on the Ganga Expressway. This (bottling) plant is ready, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway will also be completed.”
“Four-lane connectivity has been provided to Nepal, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. As of 2017, only two airports were fully functional and two were partially functional in the state and today nine airports are operational while 12 airports are under construction. UP will soon become a state with five international airports. Metro and ropeway work is going on on a war footing.
