‘Actually Asked For No. 23 But Kuldeep Yadav…’: Ishan Kishan Narrates The Story of His India Jersey Number

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan sports number 32 on his India jersey but it was not his first choice. Ishaan had asked for a different number but since it was already taken by a senior member, he had to find another number.

In a video shared by the social media handles of the Indian cricket team, the youngster revealed how he picked the current number with the help of his mother.

Ishan said, “I had actually asked for 23, but Kuldeep Yadav had already got that number.” Any other questions and went for it.”

Ishan also talked about how he idolized the great MS Dhoni while growing up when both played their domestic cricket for Jharkhand.

“While growing up my favorite cricketing idol was MS Dhoni. Coming from the same place, I am also playing for Jharkhand. So I really wanted to fill his spot and now that I am here, I will make sure that I win many games for my team.”

Opening for India against Bangladesh, Ishan scored the fastest ever double century in the history of ODI cricket in December, but was dropped for the next assignment in the format against Sri Lanka at home.

He made his ODI return in the New Zealand series, but was pushed down the middle order where he scored 30 runs in three innings.

However, Ishan will be expected to open the innings during the New Zealand T20 International series starting on Friday, with Rohit Sharma rested.

“The first autograph I asked for was of MS Dhoni. I was 18 and it was a dream come true to meet him and I still have his autograph on my bat.”

The first T20 of the series will be played in Ranchi on Friday while the second one will be played in Lucknow on Sunday. The third competition will be held in Ahmedabad.
