Actress Roopa Dutta has been arrested for allegedly diverting attention at the venue of the International Kolkata Book Fair. The police gave this information on Sunday.
Dutta, who has worked in television serials, was arrested on Saturday after a policeman threw her purse in the dustbin, an official of Bidhan Nagar North police station said.
He was then detained and questioned, during which discrepancies in his answers were found. During the search, several purses and Rs 75,000 in cash were found from his bag, they said.
“The woman has been arrested in connection with ‘Kepmari’ (theft of attention) and further investigation is on to find out if there are more people linked to the crime,” the officer said.
Roopa Dutta was earlier in the soup after falsely accusing filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment, while she shared screenshots of her conversation on social media with another man, who shared a first name with the famous director.
