Actors who have faced trouble with politicians. The Times of India

Sarkar’s song Oru Viral Purchiye had a picture of people burning freebies given by the government. This angered ministers in the then AIADMK government, including Kambur Raju, CV Shanmugam, D Jayakumar and VV Rajan Chellappa, who alleged that the shots insulted the government. While party supporters ransacked some cinema halls for the screening of the film and staged a protest, the police also reached the door of the film’s director AR Murugadoss. While the move was condemned by many in the industry, the issue was resolved when the makers agreed to remove the shots from the film.

Vijay had also faced the wrath of late party leader Jayalalithaa in 2013 for the tagline of his film Thalaiva – Time to Lead. The then government did not allow the release of the film, citing bomb threats to some cinemas. Vijay was not even allowed to meet Jayalalithaa. It finally led to a video appeal to the star, requesting the CM’s help to make the film hit the screens.
