Actors Chandni Sharma, Abhishek Rawat wish on maintaining work-life balance in the TV industry

Kamna is the new show on primetime slot and is currently airing on Sony TV at 8.30 PM. It is the story of a simple-minded government employee, Manav (Abhishek Rawat) and his wife Kamna (Chandni Sharma), a housewife who has materialistic ambitions in life but does not have the means to fulfill all her desires. Since Manav and Kamna don’t have a moral foundation and life values, their bitter chemistry in the show is worth watching.

Talking about the various aspects that Kaamna touches on in a husband-wife story, Abhishek shared, “The people we play in Kaamna are flawed and very real. There is no black and white in any aspect of his personality.”

Chandni further added, “There is not a single domineering character in the story. Say, the husband is dominant and the wife is just sitting in the corner, there is nothing like that. Also say that the wife is very clever and molests her husband all the time, that is also not the case. This is a struggle for equality. Both the characters have their own way of handling situations. Also, there is no negative or positive character in the show. We are human and that is how we are made.”

Talking about the positive and negative aspects of working on a TV set, where one shoots in 12-hour shifts everyday, Chandni said in a lighter vein, “The positive is, you keep working and earning. But you don’t get time to shop. And spend that money or waste it on unnecessary things. The downside is that even when you are making money, you don’t have time to spend on the things you love. In my case, that’s clothes. You can also shop online but where to wear those clothes (laughs)?”

Abhishek shared, “It is good that you are working on a daily basis. The downside is that when you keep doing the same thing every day, monotony builds up. The sleep cycle gets disrupted. There’s a lot of work to be done. You are not resting properly. The challenge is to get through the tough times. One thing to do is not to think too much about it. The acting profession sometimes takes work and sometimes not so much. There is a lean patch. But I guess, you start compromising with it once in a while and then it becomes a thing.”

On work-life balance, Abhishek said, “It is not often that there is a perfect balance. With 12 hours of shooting and travel time added to it, there is not much time left to do personal work and spend quality time with my family. But life is like that and there’s not much you can do about it.”

Chandni shared, “Usually it is one day off in a week. I work out, or go shopping or go to a class in my spare day. No one can do so much in one day. Sometimes my heart tells me to just take some rest. So it becomes an achievement in itself that you feel comfortable. It shows on the face too and it is very important in our workspace.”
