Abid Ali advised rest for two months after angioplasty

Pakistan opener Abid Ali was on Thursday advised two months’ rest after a second procedure for a heart ailment. The Pakistan Cricket Board has also confirmed this development.

Abid was taken to the hospital earlier this week after he complained of severe chest pain while batting during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match.

Cardiac surgeons diagnosed after several tests that Abid was suffering from “acute coronary syndrome,” which basically means blockage of blood flow to part of his heart.

The opener underwent an angioplasty procedure on Wednesday to insert a stent, while another procedure was performed on Thursday to insert the second stent.

A reliable source close to the player said that doctors had told Abid that he needs to take complete rest for two months before resuming his cricketing career.

The source said that he has been advised to take a break of two months after which he will re-assess him.

The PCB also said on social media that its medical team is consulting cardiologists abroad for further treatment and rehabilitation.

It said Abid’s condition is currently stable after the successful second procedure.

Abid was batting on 61 for Central Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when the team manager took him to the hospital.

Abid, who completed his 9000 runs in first-class cricket, was part of the Pakistan team for the recent Bangladesh tour.

The Lahore opener has scored centuries in his debut ODI and Test.
