The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elects a new mayor after the end of each financial year.

Senior party leader Sanjay Singh on Monday said that the Aam Aadmi Party will reiterate Mayor Shelly Oberoi and Deputy Mayor Ale Mohammad Iqbal as its candidates for the respective posts in the MCD mayoral elections to be held on April 26.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Singh also said that the BJP had earlier tried to disrupt the mayoral elections, but AAP emerged victorious.

“We will reiterate Shelly Oberoi and Aale Mohammad Iqbal as candidates for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor respectively. Earlier, AAP had emerged victorious in the mayoral election despite BJP’s attempts to obstruct it. Our candidates will win the elections this time as well,” Singh said.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elects a new mayor after the end of each financial year.

The post of mayor in the national capital sees five single-year terms on a rotation basis, with the first year reserved for women, the second for the open category, the third for the reserved category and the remaining two again for the open category. .

The civic elections were held on December 4 last year after the three corporations were integrated into the MCD and a fresh delimitation exercise was carried out, reducing the total number of wards from 272 in 2012 to 250.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was victorious in the election.
