AAP MLA Akhilesh Tripathi Assaults Two Men: Police

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Akhilesh Tripathi on Wednesday allegedly assaulted two people in North West Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area, one of whom complained of a sewage problem, police said. He told that at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, Ashok Vihar police station received information about the assault near Lalbagh.

A police team reached the spot. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Usha Rangnani said that during interrogation it was found that AAP MLA from Model Town constituency Akhilesh Tripathi assaulted Guddu Halwai and Mukesh Babu and they were admitted to BJRM Hospital in Jahangirpuri.

The DCP said the statement of the confectioner was recorded and added that on Wednesday he was present at a function along a railway line near Jailor Wala Bagh, Ashok Vihar, where he was providing catering services.

During the function, he met Tripathi and complained about the sewage problem in the area. He said the MLA got angry and hit him on the head with a brick. Babu, a relative of the confectioner, tried to mediate, but Tripathi attacked him as well.

Halwai has suffered an injury on the left side of his head while Babu has no external injury. Police said that a case has been registered and investigation has been started. Tripathi termed the case registered against him as “politically motivated” and denied the allegations against him.

He alleged that the police had registered a case against him on the basis of the statement of the person (complaint), who was so intoxicated that he could not even stand on his feet properly. “It is dirty politics that BJP is playing against me. I condemn it,” the AAP MLA said when asked for his remarks.

The sewer mentioned by the complainant is not operational yet. “So where does the question of whether it is damaged or not working?” They said. “I think after regaining consciousness, he (complainant) will realize that he has made a false statement,” he said.
