Sitharaman slams P Chidambaram

On a question related to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s comment that Sitharaman did not mention poverty in the budget speech, he said that he used to mention poverty 1000 times but did he eliminate poverty from the country.

“They keep making statements but don’t work, we don’t take names but work, so they are saying there was no enthusiasm in the budget,” he said.

The Finance Minister said that it is the style of the Congress that ‘Naam Lo Magar Kuch Mat Karo’ but PM Modi worked for the minorities and one can feel it.

On the opposition’s allegation that there was no enthusiasm in the budget, he said that it was true that there was no enthusiasm as the government had ended the culture of lobbying and middlemen had no role in the budget document making process.

“We started the budget process in November. We consulted all the stakeholders and then we prepared the documents,” he said.

Sitharaman said that transparency in governance has removed corruption from the system, which is why the opposition could not show enthusiasm in the budget.

He said that transparency in governance is PM Modi’s style and he used to practice high transparency in governance even when he was the CM, which is why there are no corruption charges against our ministers.

On the increase in prices, he said that the country’s economy is also growing and we should not ignore the increase in income.
