Pune: A 42-year-old debt-ridden man allegedly killed his ailing mother and then committed suicide in Maharashtra’s Pune. The police gave this information on Sunday.
He said the man, identified as Ganesh Fartade, had mentioned in an alleged ‘suicide note’ sent to a relative via WhatsApp that he had suffered huge losses in the stock market, due to which he took the step.
The incident took place in Dhankwadi area on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.
The man gave his 76-year-old ailing mother a “heavy dose” of a drug to kill him at their home.
However, when he did not die, he allegedly killed her with a plastic bag, said Yunus Mulani, senior police inspector of Sahakar Nagar.
“After killing his mother, the man allegedly committed suicide by hanging,” the officer said.
Before taking such a big step, the man sent a ‘suicide note’ to his cousin on WhatsApp.
The officer said the cousin informed the police, who reached the man’s residence and found him and his mother dead.
“In the suicide note, the man said that he was taking such a drastic step because he had suffered huge losses in the stock market, due to which he was in debt. He also mentioned killing his mother, adding that he wanted to free him from his ailments,” the officer said.
