On Friday, 80 MPs introduced the Private Member Bill in the Lok Sabha. In these bills, MPs have included Uniform Civil Code, compulsory teaching of Sanskrit in schools, compulsory voting, unemployment allowance, population control, training of first aid, Ayurvedic treatment to include insurance cover to Hindu Marriage Act, MGNREGA, Demanded various laws and constitutional amendments including UGC Act, Central University Act, CrPC and IPC.

Unmesh Bhaiya Saheb Patil has demanded to set up a National Water University in Maharashtra. At the same time, Rajasthan MP CP Joshi and Madhya Pradesh’s Sudhir Gupta introduced a bill to save and repair water bodies in their state. Gopal Chinmay Shetty spoke about Right to Educate Housing. Through this they want to build a toilet in every house.

Only 2-3% of member bills discussed in 25 years
Ashok Mahadev Rao demanded separate statehood for Vidarbha and unemployment allowance. In the winter session of 2021, on December 3, the maximum number of bills were introduced in a single day, 145. Last year, 134 bills were pending in the Lok Sabha after the monsoon session. In 25 years only 2% to 3% of private member bills have got time for discussion. If these bills are not passed, they automatically lapse after the completion of the term of the Lok Sabha. At the same time, the bill ends after the completion of the term of the MP in the Rajya Sabha.

So far 14 such bills have become law in parliamentary history.
Out of several thousand bills introduced in parliamentary history, only 14 bills have become law. Since 1970, more than two and a half thousand private member bills have been introduced in Parliament. None of these private member bills have been passed.
