The country’s first Republic Day was celebrated on 26 January 1950 at Rajpath. The country has seen the Republic Day parade at Rajpath every year, but the first parade of Republic Day did not take place at Rajpath. The first Republic Day parade in 1950 took place at the Irvine Stadium, which is today called the National Stadium.
