According to the data provided by the health department, 579 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Delhi on Thursday and one death was reported. The positivity rate in the national capital was recorded at 3.46 per cent.

With the fresh infections and fatalities, Delhi’s caseload rose to 19,39,227 and the death toll rose to 26,277, a health department bulletin said.

The fresh cases were reported out of 16,755 tests conducted on the previous day.

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded 600 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.27 per cent and one death. The city recorded 615 cases with a positivity rate of 3.89 per cent and three deaths on Tuesday.

Of the 9,469 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals, only 154 were occupied as of Thursday. The bulletin states that beds in covid care centers and covid health centers are lying vacant.

The number of active cases in Delhi is 2,480, up from 2,590 on the previous day. It said that 1,760 patients are in home isolation.

It said there are 331 containment zones in the capital, down from 349 on Wednesday.

There have been a few cases of Omicron’s ba.4 and ba.5 sub-variants in the national capital, which are highly transmissible, but experts have said there is no need to panic as these sub-variants do not cause serious infections. .

During the third wave of the pandemic, the number of fresh Covid cases in Delhi touched a record high of 28,867 on January 13.

The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic.
