501 fresh covid cases registered in Delhi, positivity rate reaches 7.72 pc, no deaths

Delhi’s Covid-19 positivity rate rose to 7.72 per cent on Monday, while the city reported 501 fresh cases, 16 less than the previous day, according to health department data. Officials said the last time the positivity rate in the city was above seven per cent was on January 29 (7.4 per cent) and January 28 (8.6 per cent).

Delhi has been witnessing an increase in the positivity rate of daily COVID-19 cases in the last few days, except on Sundays. The positivity rate in the city rose to 7.72 per cent on Monday despite less testing. The national capital recorded a positivity rate of 4.21 per cent on Sunday. A total of 6,492 COVID-19 tests were conducted on the previous day, said the bulletin on Monday. However, Sunday’s health bulletin said that a total of 12,270 COVID-19 tests were conducted on the previous day.

According to the data provided by the city’s health department, the positivity rate has increased six times in the last one week between April 10 and April 18. The positivity rate stood at 1.29 per cent with 141 cases on April 10 which rose to 7.72 per cent on Monday with 501 fresh COVID-19 cases.

With the new cases, the city’s infection tally has risen to 18,69,051, while the death toll stood at 26,160 as no new deaths were reported. The city had registered 517 Covid cases without any deaths on Sunday.

On Saturday, Delhi reported 461 Covid cases and two deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 5.33 per cent. On Friday, Delhi had recorded 366 COVID-19 cases and zero deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 3.95 per cent.

The number of patients under home isolation has also increased as there were 1,188 Kovid patients under home isolation as against 964 on Sunday. Delhi’s hospitals have 9,735 beds for COVID-19 patients and 81 (0.83 per cent) of them are occupied. , the bulletin said.

The bulletin said that till date there were 623 containment zones across the city. The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi touched a record high of 28,867 on January 13 this year during the third wave of the pandemic. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 percent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic, largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron version of the coronavirus.
