Russia-Ukraine War: As the Russian-Ukrainian war enters its 500th day, there are growing signs of abating in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev as another shelling from the east in the Donetsk region resulted in eight casualties on Saturday.
A BBC report quoted Ukraine’s Interior Ministry as saying that at least 13 people were wounded in the shelling in a residential area of Liman city in Donetsk. A house, some vehicles and a printing shop caught fire due to the shelling.
“At around 10:00, the Russians attacked the city with multiple rocket launchers,” Pavlo Kirilenko, the regional governor of Donetsk, said on Twitter.
Lyman, a major railway hub in the Donetsk region, was captured by Russia earlier in the war and was later retaken by Ukrainian forces in October 2022.
The Russia-Ukraine war is set to complete 500 days this weekend, since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Numerous missile attacks and intense fighting have resulted in the deaths of many civilians on both sides, as well as large-scale civilian casualties.

Ten people were killed and 42 injured in the latest Russian rocket attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Thursday, according to the local mayor.
Russian missiles also struck a pizza restaurant in the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk last week, killing 11 people, including four children. 56 people were injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked his troops on the completion of 500 days of war with Russia during a visit to Snake Island. He said, “I want to thank each and every soldier of ours for these 500 days, from here, from this place of victory.”
Zelensky previously said that Ukrainian forces were making steady, but slow, gains in their counteroffensive against Russian troops. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, they are conducting an offensive near the remaining part of the eastern city of Bakhmut – apparently controlled by Russian forces.
