3 cops injured in chase after suspected car thief drives through roadblock

A suspected car thief drove through a temporary road in Jerusalem on Thursday, following a police chase that resulted in three officers being injured.

Police said in a statement that officers’ suspicions were raised when a trailer vehicle carrying engineering equipment approached the Arajim tunnel in the early hours of the morning.

Believing it to be stolen, officers proceeded to stop the vehicle from proceeding, at which point the driver began “driving recklessly” and went through a road barrier.

During an attempt to stop the vehicle, the police vehicle crashed and three officers were injured. No details were given on whether another vehicle was involved.

All three officers sustained mild to moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the suspected car thief was involved in a separate accident that caused the trailer to overturn.

The suspect fled on foot. Police said they later arrested the suspect and the other driver, an 18-year-old boy from Abu Tor, who was suspected of involvement in the incident.
