Former Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh.

After leaving the post of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh came in front of the media and told about leaving the post himself. He said that he is happy, before going to Australia he had talked about relinquishing both the thrones. At the same time, he got very angry on Virsa Singh Valtoha’s comment made on the post of Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib.

Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has not taken away this post from him. Before going to Australia, he had asked the Chief Secretary to resign. He was also ready to give up the throne of Damdama Sahib and talked about making eligible Gursikhs sit on both the thrones. He said that he is still ready to give up the charge of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

On the other hand, Giani Harpreet Singh clarified that the distance has not increased due to Raghav Chadha’s engagement. Going to Raghav Chadha and Parineeti Chopra’s engagement was not a big deal.

Put Virsa Singh Valtoha as Jathedar
During this, Giani Harpreet Singh also condemned the statement of senior Akali Dal leader Virsa Singh Valtoha. He said that he had come to know about Valtoha’s statement. He wrote on his social media account that it is not necessary to be a narrator, granthi or scholar to become the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib. The Jathedar should only be courageous.

He demanded from the SGPC that Virsa Singh Valtoha should be made the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib. He is very brave.

Best wishes to Raghbir Singh
During this, Giani Harpreet Singh congratulated Giani Raghbir Singh on taking charge and being made Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib. He said that he has served this throne for about five and a half years and now the gurus have given him this opportunity.

It is wrong for governments to interfere in Gurdwara Act
Giani Harpreet Singh said that only law scholars can tell whether it is right or not for the governments to give power in the Gurdwara Act 1925, but as far as he knows, there was an agreement between the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and SGPC Master Tara Singh . In which it was clearly said that this act cannot be amended without the approval of SGPC.
