Allen’s composition 60 ensured that Malahide would be in no trouble as the Black Caps won the series with one game to spare.

Finn Allen and Tom Latham scored half-centuries as New Zealand clinched a series-winning three-wicket haul against Ireland on Tuesday.

Mark Adair put New Zealand under pressure when he removed Martin Guptill and Will Young in the first two balls of the innings as they chased down Ireland’s 216.

But Allen’s 60 ensured there was no foul at Malahide as the Black Caps won the series with one game to spare.

Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry helped pick up two wickets each as New Zealand easily restricted Ireland in the hosts’ innings.

It was only George Dockrell’s ODI best of 74 off 61 balls and Adair’s 27 off 15 balls that enabled Ireland to cross 200.

New Zealand’s poor start to their chase was soon forgotten as they prepared themselves after Latham (55) joined Allen in scoring a half-century.

A blow from the middle order put the result in doubt again until Bracewell translated his fine form with the ball to the bat.

Bracewell’s heroics took New Zealand to a one-wicket win in the opening game and his unbeaten 42 put the tourists back in line with 71 balls to spare.
