The 2525 kg of methamphetamine drugs seized in Kerala on Saturday is not worth Rs 12,000 crore, but Rs 25,000 crore. Actually its quality is very good, that’s why the price is so high. Earlier its estimated cost was said to be 12 thousand crore rupees.

The drugs were seized by the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) off the Kerala coast during a joint operation.

Navy and NCB took more than 23 hours to ascertain the cost of the drugs. NCB Deputy Director General Sanjay Kumar Singh said that this is the biggest seizure of drugs in India in terms of value.

Supply was to be done in India, Sri Lanka and Maldives
According to NCB, these drugs were transported from Pakistan. From here it was transported to Chabahar Port in Iran. After this it was brought to India by boat. Apart from India, it was also to be supplied in Sri Lanka and Maldives.

According to the plan of the drug mafia, this boat would stop at some places in the sea. During this, small boats from different countries used to come near it and return with drugs. This boat was caught near the Kochi coast of Kerala even before the drugs could be supplied. A Pakistani man has also been arrested with the drugs.

Operation Samudragupt was started in February 2022
Sanjay Kumar said- We started Operation Samudragupt in February 2022. Under the operation, the team has so far seized about 4000 kg of different types of drugs. In this operation, in February 2022, the joint team of NCB and Indian Navy had seized about 760 kg of drugs from the coast of Gujarat. Its cost was estimated at Rs 2,000 crore.

After this, in October 2022, the joint team intercepted an Iranian boat off the coast of Kerala, from which a total of 200 kg of high grade heroin was seized. In this operation, 6 Iranian smugglers were also arrested.

The drugs seized in February 2022 included 529 kg charas, 221 kg methamphetamine and 13 kg heroin.

NCB also worked with Sri Lanka and Maldives
Apart from the Indian Navy, NCB also worked with Sri Lanka and Maldives regarding Operation Samudragupt. Information was shared with each other, which led to two operations by the Sri Lankan Navy in December 2022 and April 2023. It also saw the arrest of 19 drug peddlers along with the seizure of 286 kg of heroin and 128 kg of methamphetamine. At the same time, in March 2023, the Maldivian police arrested 5 smugglers while recovering 4 kg of heroin.
