Venkatesh had pointed out that several family members of Kovid-19 victims had been demanding compensation for more than six months and asked whether the government was aware of it.
In its reply, the government said that though it was confirmed that the cause of death was due to COVID-19, the Department of Health and Family Welfare did not have the details of the deceased and, therefore, no provision for accepting applications for compensation. Was. from family members.
The government further said that the deaths were eventually added to the COVID-19 war room line list as per the direction of the State Disaster Response Force.SDRF) and a Government Order to this effect was issued on January 10, 2022.
“By developing the software, a login has been given to the additional deputy commissioners of the districts,” Revenue Minister R Ashok said in his reply.
“After verification by the Deputy Commissioners of the district, compensation of Rs 50,000 has been provided in 16,925 cases. The remaining 3,795 claims are being verified and compensation will be paid in deserving cases.
Health department officials told TOI that during the second wave, when the death rate was high, the system was “overburdened” and “some” of the deaths were not record-ed. “We have sorted out such deaths to ensure that the family members get compensation as and when by the district authorities,” he said.
