Facebook officials on Thursday appeared before the Assembly’s peace committee over the riots in northeast Delhi last year. Committee chairman Raghav Chadha interacted with Facebook officials. Also, one month before the riots and two months after the riots, it has been directed to produce records of users’ reports (complaints) on the content posted on Facebook.

Raghav Chadha, chairman of the Assembly’s Peace and Harmony Committee, asked Facebook India (Meta Platforms) public policy director Shivnath Thukral to produce the record after hearing the application. Chadha also consulted a Facebook executive about the company’s organizational structure, grievance redressal system, community standards and definition of hate posts.

Action is necessary against some bad people
Thukral said that Facebook is not a law enforcement agency but it cooperates with such agencies when needed. During the hearing, he said, “When incidents happen in the real world, they also appear on our stage. We do not want to spread hatred on our platform. There are some bad people against whom action needs to be taken.

Team of 40 thousand people for content management
Thukral said that Facebook has 40,000 people to work on content management, out of which 15,000 people modify the content. Content found to be against community standards is immediately removed from the platform. Explain that the committee had summoned Facebook India to consider the role of social media platforms in curbing messages sent with false, provocative and malicious intent.
