169 Sensitive Polling Booths Identified | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: As many as 6,192 employees will be deployed to conduct elections for the city corporation, commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara said after convening a meeting with political party representatives on Friday to brief them about the guidelines issued by the state election commission,
“All the measures are underway to conduct the urban local body elections in a fair and transparent manner,” Raja Gopal Sunkara said.
He said 15 flying squads have been formed to check violations of election rules, standard operation procedures for Covid-19 and bribing of voters. They will be monitoring round-the-clock. Complaints received from the public through the control room established at the main building of the corporation will be passed on to the squads.
“Members of the flying squads have been briefed to take strict action against violators. In case of violation of Covid-19-appropriate behavior, the teams have been instructed to book the violators under Section 188 of IPC and Disaster Management Act, The teams were deployed from today onwards,” Raja Gopal Sunkara said.
He said as per 2011 census and delimitation exercise carried out in 2018, 50 wards have been allotted to women, including five wards for scheduled caste. Fifty wards have been allotted to the general category, including five wards for scheduled caste.
There will be 1,290 polling booths in 32 polling stations. Of the 1,290 booths, 169 have been identified as sensitive ones by the city police. Additional facilities like web streaming will be carried out at the sensitive booths, the commissioner said.
A total of 15, 61,819 voters, including 7,81,379 female and 297 third gender voters, will elect their representatives in the city.
As many as 1,548 control units and 3,612 voting machines will be used for the polling. Similarly, 105 zonal teams have been formed. The teams will install voting machines in polling booths and shift them to counting halls after the polling is over, the commissioner added.
