Yamunanagar City SHO Kanwaljit said he was taken into preventive custody for fear of breach of peace, but was later released.

Fourteen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and leaders were on Sunday taken into preventive custody by the police for allegedly putting up posters of ‘Modi Hatao Desh Bachao’ in the city.

Yamunanagar city station in-charge Kanwaljit said he was taken into preventive custody for fear of disturbing the peace, but was later released.

AAP leader Chitra Sarwara was also among those taken into custody.

“The right to protest, the right to raise voice in a peaceful manner is guaranteed in the Constitution. But this kind of response from the government shows their insecurity,” he said.

Sarwara said, “They call it amritkal, but it is aaptkal (emergency), which has been declared by the BJP. They want to suppress the voice of the opposition.”
