13,313 new daily cases, jump in 5 states: Concerned Center’s Kovid review meeting today

India reported 13,313 new cases of Kovid-19, taking the number of active cases to 83,990, while the total caseload rose to 4,33,44,958. Data from the Union Health Ministry updated on Thursday.

The ministry said active cases comprise 0.19 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.60 per cent.

Meanwhile, the toll rose to 5,24,941 with 38 Kovid deaths in the last 24 hours.

An increase of 2,303 cases has been registered in the active COVID caseload in a span of 24 hours. According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.03 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 2.81 percent. The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 4,27,36,027, while the death rate was recorded at 1.21 percent.

According to the ministry, 196.62 crore doses of Kovid vaccine have been given so far in the country under the nationwide Kovid-19 vaccination campaign. ,

Mansukh Mandaviya called a review meeting amid rising cases

Amid rising COVID-19 cases in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called a review meeting with the core team of experts on Thursday, sources said.

Earlier, on June 13, Mandaviya chaired a meeting through video conferencing with health ministers and senior officials of states and union territories (UTs) to review the progress of the vaccination exercise Harghar Dastak 2.0 campaign.

“Covid is not over yet. There are reports of increasing cases of Kovid in some states. Staying alert at this time and not forgetting the COVID Appropriate Practices (CAB) such as wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance to prevent the spread of the infection,” he had insisted.

Center worried about upheaval in 5 states

Meanwhile, even though Maharashtra and Kerala account for 60 per cent of the total active COVID-19 cases in the country, the Center is reportedly concerned over the rapid rise in cases in states like Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The “growth factor” in daily Covid-19 cases over the past fortnight – between June 6-20 – indicating an increasing trajectory of cases – is projected to be above six in Tamil Nadu and over four in both Delhi and UP. times of India,

Meanwhile, daily Covid-19 cases in Telangana and Haryana have also increased by more than three in the last fortnight. However, the growth factor is below three in Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka, despite a large share of active cases, according to an official assessment data mentioned in the report.

The assessment shows that the active caseload has more than doubled in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in the last one week. Overall, 10 states have more than 1000 active cases of Covid-19, while four states have active cases in the range of 500-1000, data till Monday showed.
