102 students test covid positive in Patiala’s Government Medical College

New Delhi: 102 students tested positive for COVID-19 in Government Medical College, Patiala. all cases are expected to be omicron Patiala Divisional Commissioner Sandeep Hans said.

He further said, “The samples have been sent for genome sequencing. The Patiala administration has decided to shut down all educational institutions.”

According to media reports, the authorities have asked all the students to leave the hostel immediately.

Patiala is one of the most affected cities of Punjab. In the last week, Patiala and Pathankot districts reported more than half of the state’s total Covid-19 caseload.

15 students test positive at Thapar University

Thapar University, Patiala had also recorded incidents of COVID-19 on the campus. Following the report, district health officials designated one of the hostels where first-year students live as a containment zone.

According to district epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh, most of the students who have tested positive are symptomatic.

Punjab administration contemplating closing down educational institutions

As the number of Covid-19 cases rise, the state administration is considering closing down schools, universities and educational institutions.

Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi discussed the COVID-19 scenario in the state with State Medical Education Minister Rajkumar Verka and other officials.
