Madhya Pradesh Elections 2023: No one trusts Shivraj Singh Chouhan as he did nothing as Chief Minister for 18 years, Kamal Nath tells News18 during his whirlwind tour of the state to speak about Congress’ promises

Five guarantees of the Congress in Karnataka proved to be an electoral ploy. Now, the promise of freebies is being repeated by the party in other poll-bound states, with former chief minister Kamal Nath launching a series of ‘guarantees’ in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

“For 18 years as chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan did nothing. No one trusts Shivraj. That’s the bottom line,” Kamal Nath told News18 in the midst of his whirlwind tour of the state to speak about these promises.

Nath on Thursday announced that 100 units of electricity will be free in the state and half the tariff for all up to 200 units if the Congress is voted to power later this year. ,Waiver up to 100 units, half up to 200, Shivraj government clearsaid the former CM.

The other major guarantee that Nath has promised is that women in the state will get Rs 1,500 per month from the government without any preconditions.

In Karnataka too, the Congress had promised 200 units of free electricity and Rs 2,000 to every female head of household – which seems to have wooed women voters. Nath has gone a step further in Madhya Pradesh and has also promised that the price of LPG gas cylinder will be capped at Rs 500, with the state government bearing the rest of the cost, which could mean a consumer spending around Rs 600 on an LPG cylinder refill. Save Rs. ,

Among other guarantees, Nath has promised to implement the old pension scheme, which earlier proved to be a game-changer for the party in Himachal Pradesh. He has also promised to ‘restart’ the farm loan waiver, which he claims was left incomplete after Jyotiraditya Scindia toppled his government due to an insurgency.

The BJP has been terming such promises as ‘impractical’ as it would cost the exchequer more than Rs 50,000 crore annually. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also citing how Kamal Nath went back on his earlier promise of giving ‘unemployment allowance’ after becoming the CM. Chouhan is referring to his new ‘CM Sikho Kamao Yojana’, in which unemployed youth will be trained and a stipend of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 will be given during the same.
