To ease the traffic congestion in Shillong, the state government will launch the “Pool School Bus System” with a fleet of around 100 minibuses.

Meghalaya Education Department will soon implement the school bus project in the state to ease the traffic congestion. Meghalaya will soon introduce a pool-school bus system under which normal buses will ply for students in state schools to ensure that students reach their campuses on time. These buses will ensure a smooth moment of traffic. A fleet of around 100 minibuses will be launched under the project.
Education Minister Lakhmen Rimbui said that this has been done for the benefit of the students and it will be implemented in the coming times. Stating that the project is mainly to decongest Shillong, the minister said, “The idea is to ensure that there is less traffic congestion in Shillong, we also have challenges while implementing this project, so we have to get a Bar its rollout has to be seen that the necessary challenges are sought so that this project can be successful.”
“In the budget, we have the resources to have 100 buses. This project is for the students of both government and private schools,” he said.
“The specifics of the project are being worked out and will be implemented in the time to come,” Education Minister Lakhmen Rimbui told reporters in Shillong. Stating that the department is facing challenges to implement the project, the education minister said, “The process is on, so we will look after all the challenges and we will work accordingly.”
“We have not determined how many schools will participate but the project is ongoing. It is not yet known how many schools from Tura to Shillong will participate. This initiative is in the best interest of the student community of the state.”
