1.95 Lakh Cusecs Launched From Ukai Dam, Tapi River Swells | Surat Information – Occasions of India

SURAT: Tapi river passing by way of town was flowing bank-to-bank following the rise in water discharged from the Ukai reservoir since Tuesday morning.
Based on officers on the Ukai dam on river Tapi, the discharge until Tuesday night had elevated to 1.95 lakh cusecs. This was primarily due to elevated influx into the reservoir from the catchment space of Tapi river that witnessed heavy downpour.
The influx of water that was 87,000 cusecs on Tuesday morning elevated to 2.50 lakh cusecs within the night resulting from heavy rain within the catchment areas.
Ukai dam officers mentioned that 1.76 lakh cusecs water was launched instantly downstream whereas 17,616 cusecs was launched into the hydro-power turbines. About 1,100 cusecs of water was launched into the canal for irrigation.
As a result of heavy influx of water, the discharge shall be maintained at about 2 lakh cusecs from Ukai.
Surat Municipal Company (SMC) groups had been holding an in depth watch on the water ranges within the metropolis’s low-lying areas.
“The rain has stopped within the catchment of Ukai dam and it’s seemingly that the influx of water will lower progressively. Nevertheless, the discharge from Ukai shall be maintained at 2 lakh cusecs for the following few hours,” mentioned an official.
