Around 250 people were trapped in Baralacha in Lahaul Spiti tribal area of Himachal Pradesh. A rescue operation went on overnight to get them out safely. After this operation which lasted for 13 to 14 hours, everyone was brought safely to Keylong headquarters on Saturday morning.
SP Lahaul Spiti Mayank Chaudhary told that all the rescued people have been sent to their respective destinations by afternoon. He said that on Friday afternoon, a tourist vehicle informed the administration about people being stranded at Baralacha.

After this, the administration, BRO (Border Road Organization), local people, hotel association etc. jointly conducted the rescue operation. This went on throughout the night. Everyone could be safely evacuated from Baralacha by 6.15 am. Tourists from different states of the state are said to be involved in this.
Reason for getting stuck in Baralacha
The road stretch of about 8 kilometers in Baralacha is quite tight. Vehicles often get stuck here. Especially in case of bad weather and snowfall, the road gets blocked completely. The same thing happened yesterday afternoon as well. Suddenly the weather changed and it started snowing. After this the traffic jam continued to increase as a large number of vehicles were released from Sarchu and Darcha. Due to this, there was a long traffic jam of about 10 to 12 kilometers.

After the bad weather, 80 to 90 light motor vehicles, 30 to 40 bikers and 300 to 400 vehicles were stuck in the traffic jam here. The administration also provided essential medicines to the patients trapped in the vehicles on the spot. Due to snowfall and cold, people had to face problems throughout the night.

These days the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light snowfall in the higher areas of the state and rain in other areas. In such a situation, traveling especially in high areas can be risky.
