PGI has been reorganized again in 2021-22 after the new education policy. However, no state has got full marks on all 10 parameters.

The Performing Grade Index (PGI) has been released by the Union Ministry of Education regarding school education. Chandigarh and Punjab are at the top this year. Kerala and Maharashtra are jointly at number two. PGI is issued for the education system in the states and union territories.

Ranking is decided by the marks obtained out of 1000 marks
The index is ranked in ten grades based on scores out of 1000 on learning outcomes, equity and infrastructure and other criteria. But no state has got a place in the first five levels (numbers 701 to 1000).

The top ranking Chandigarh and Punjab have got place in the sixth level Effort – 2. It shows the score between 641-700 out of 1000. Last year, the best-performing states—Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh—scored between 901 and 950 points out of 1,000.

This time Kerala included in Effort-3 level
Punjab and Chandigarh are followed by Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. These states have been included in IFRT-3 (581-640) level. It is followed by Andaman and Nicobar, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, Sikkim, Haryana, West Bengal and Himachal in Aspirant-1 level (521-580).

Aspirant – 2 (461-520) has Assam, Nagaland, Bihar, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Jharkhand, Tripura, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh and Uttarakhand in the list. The last level Aspirant-3 (401-460) covers three states Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram.

PGI has been reorganized again in 2021-22 after the new education policy. However, no state has got full marks on all 10 parameters. Delhi has got the best rank in terms of equality and access.
