Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, two ministers of Arvind Kejriwal government arrested in corruption case in Delhi, have resigned from their posts on Tuesday. According to the news agency, Chief Minister Kejriwal has also accepted the resignation of both. According to media reports, now education ministry can be given to Rajkumar Anand and finance ministry to Kailash Gehlot.

While Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 in the liquor policy case, Satyendar Jain is lodged in Tihar Jail since May 30 last year in the money laundering case. Sisodia was the most powerful minister in the Kejriwal government. These resignations came shortly after Sisodia’s bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court.

First know what the Supreme Court said while rejecting Manish Sisodia’s bail plea
Former Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who is on CBI remand in the liquor policy case, did not get relief even from the Supreme Court. According to the news agency, the CJI’s bench reprimanded him for coming directly to the Supreme Court and said that you go to the High Court, what is the meaning of coming directly to us. We cannot promote a wrong tradition.

Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi had moved a petition for urgent hearing on Tuesday morning against Sisodia’s arrest, which was accepted by the court. A bench of CJI Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha heard the case at 4 pm.

The bench said – just because the matter is of Delhi, we cannot interfere in it. You should go to the High Court. You have many other legal options. Why are you seeking bail directly from the Supreme Court? This is not a good tradition. We are dismissing the petition.

While going for questioning on Monday, Manish Sisodia said – We are not afraid of police, CBI, ED or jail, but BJP people are afraid of Sisodia and Kejriwal.

Singhvi’s argument and court’s harshness
Sisodia’s lawyer Abhishek Singhvi, citing the Vinod Dua case, demanded an urgent hearing from the court in the morning, which was accepted. In June 2021, the Supreme Court quashed the sedition case against journalist Vinod Dua over his criticism of the Centre’s handling of the Corona pandemic. Dua had come directly to the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday evening, when the Supreme Court started hearing on Sisodia’s petition, it said – Vinod Dua case has nothing to do with his case. The journalist’s case was about freedom of speech and expression, while Sisodia’s case is about alleged corruption.

Singhvi said- Sisodia’s arrest is wrong, because his name was not in the CBI charge sheet. The CBI’s excuse is that Sisodia is not cooperating in the investigation. On this CJI Chandrachud said – go to the High Court. Our doors are open, but we are not ready to hear it at this stage.

Justice PS Narasimha said, this would be a very wrong precedent. You cannot do this just because you are in Delhi.

In his resignation, Sisodia said that it was a good fortune to become the education minister.

Sisodia is on CBI remand in liquor policy case
Manish Sisodia is currently on CBI remand till March 4 in Delhi’s liquor policy case. He was arrested by the CBI on February 26 after about 8 hours of questioning. On Monday i.e. February 27, he was presented in the special CBI court. The court sent him on CBI remand till March 4. The CBI alleged that Sisodia was giving evasive answers to the questions.

Here, on Tuesday i.e. February 28, Sisodia filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding his arrest and the method of investigation by the CBI. Satyendra Jain is in jail since May last year in money laundering case
Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain was arrested by the ED on 30 May 2022 in a money laundering case. Jain, his wife Poonam and others have been booked in the disproportionate assets and money laundering case. It is alleged that Jain had allegedly created or bought several shell companies in Delhi.

He has also transferred Rs 16.39 crore of black money through 54 shell companies from three hawala operators in Kolkata. The ED had attached assets worth Rs 4.81 crore of the Jain family and companies linked to them. Jain was questioned by the ED in 2018 as well.
