A Delhi court has ordered the prosecution of real estate baron Gopal Ansal for cheating and forgering a private company and its directors on the pretext of investing in a building in New Delhi’s Connaught Place in 1991.

Metropolitan Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal ordered framing of charges against Ansal for the alleged offenses of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy. However, the court acquitted Sushil Ansal, director of the accused company Ansal Properties, which had constructed the building named Statesman House in Connaught Place, saying there was insufficient material available against him on record.

The next hearing of the case will be on June 1.
In the order passed on April 4, the court said, except for the statement that the fraud would not have been possible without the involvement of all the directors, there is nothing on record to prosecute him (Sushil Ansal). The court fixed June 1 for next hearing in the matter to officially frame charges against Gopal Ansal.

According to the complaint, the complainant company Sachdeva & Sons Industries Pvt Ltd had invested in Statesman House in 1991, which was being constructed by Ansal Properties through Krishna Bakshi, who was working in the accused company at that time. He was known to co-accused Gopal Ansal. However, Bakshi is no more in this world.

What did the complainant allege
It was later learned by the complainant that the receipts were issued in the name of Bakshi only and that too for the payment of only one flat included in the project. The complaint alleged that the accused conspired to cheat the complainant for extorting money and used the said amount to book a flat solely in the name of Bakshi. The court noted that during investigation it was revealed that Bakshi had booked a flat in Statesman House in January 1992 with Ansal Properties.

The accused prepared fake documents
He said that the investigation also revealed that the entire amount received from the complainant for booking a flat in Statesman House was used for booking a flat for Bakshi personally. The court said that during investigation it was also found that the accused had prepared fake documents to cheat.
