In Punjab, the Bharatiya Janata Party has ruled out the possibility of re-alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. On the other hand, discussions are going on that the BJP may include former allies for the re-coalition of the erstwhile National Democratic Alliance. Whose Akali Dal was an important part.

When asked about the alliance between BJP and Akali Dal, Union Minister Hardeep Puri said that the decision has to be taken by the party. Many good people from Akali Dal have already come over to our side and we have worked with some of them in Jalandhar. Soon many more people from Akali Dal can come and join BJP.

Minister Puri said that if the NDA’s 25 years are celebrated, the party may invite former allies, but it does not mean that all former allies have been married.

Even after divorce ex-husband invites in celebration
Minister Puri said that suppose it is the 25th anniversary of your marriage. If you’re happily married, everyone will eat the same cake. But even if you are not married or you are divorced, you will still invite your ex-spouse to the celebration. Whether that means you’re trying to remarry, I don’t know. But as far as the Akali Dal is concerned, I am not in the category of remarrying.

Do not see the results of Jalandhar elections simply
Minister Hardeep Puri was in charge of 60 booths in the Jalandhar elections, in which the Aam Aadmi Party won a landslide victory. Some political economists are arguing that the combined votes of BJP and SAD can tie with AAP in the Lok Sabha bypolls.

Keeping his side on this too, Puri said – AAP got 31 per cent votes and BJP 29 per cent votes in 60 booths of Jalandhar parliamentary constituency where he was in-charge. We were not far behind AAP. The problem in Punjab is that our old alliance with the Akali Dal meant that we were never contesting more than 23 out of 117 assembly seats. So there were large areas in the countryside where we weren’t.

BJP is also visible in villages
Hardeep Puri said that according to what he saw during the Sangrur and then Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypolls, the BJP is growing in Punjab. The BJP has started appearing in areas where they were not there earlier. We were already there in the urban areas, but are now visible in the villages.
