Javed Akhtar had come to attend the ‘Faiz Festival’ organized from 17 to 19 February in Lahore, Pakistan.
Famous lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar said in an open forum in Lahore that the conspirators of Mumbai attack are roaming freely in Pakistan. He is being praised a lot for this. Actually, Javed Saheb had reached the ‘Faiz Festival’ organized in Lahore, Pakistan. A program was organized here from February 17 to 19 in memory of Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
During the program, a woman asked- Javed sahib, do you go to India and tell the people there that Pakistan is a very friendly, loving and positive country. We don’t bomb, wear flowers and love too?
On this Javed Akhtar said- ‘We are the people of Bombay, we have seen how our city was attacked. Those people (terrorists) did not come from Norway, nor did they come from Egypt. Those people are still roaming in your country. So if this complaint is in the heart of every Indian, then you should not feel bad.

first question…
A woman asked Javed Akhtar in the program – Javed Sahab! You have come to Pakistan many times. By the way, I have also gone to your house… because 17th January is your and my anniversary and I have also eaten food at your house, but you will not remember. Javed interrupting the woman and asking… Was he at my house? People laugh. Then the woman says – come on, no problem.
The woman further asks… You have come to Pakistan many times and you have seen that Pakistan is a Masha Allah very friendly, loving and positive country… But the picture we have in India is not that good.
I understand that when you come here, do you go and tell that they are very nice people. They do not throw bombs everywhere, wear flowers and also love. Do you go and tell them or not? Because we want that there should be good conditions in this region… People of both the countries should love each other and be friends.
Javed Akhtar’s answer…
There is a lot of truth in what you are saying today, but it is very sad that there is a distance of 30 kilometers between the city center of Lahore and Amritsar. Don’t know how many people know this. Despite that, the lack of knowledge about each other in these two cities and in the whole country is surprising.
Don’t think that you know everything about India. I would not say that the common Indian knows everything about you. He knows about the kind of people sitting here among you, but you don’t even know… and this problem is from both the sides. I am sometimes very surprised, I listen to whatever.
I remember when I came here five years back, I was sitting here and some people were talking in Punjabi, no wonder… it is Punjabi. So there was some joke on which I also laughed… So some khatim was sitting next to me. He asked do you understand Punjabi? So I said yes… I can’t speak, I understand.
He asked- How did you understand, then I told that most of the people in our film industry are Punjabi. She became very happy and asked – are there Punjabis in your film industry? Who are the people? So I said that you ask who are the people, then it will be easy for me to tell. He said – No – No, still… So I took three-four names… Then he said – But they are Hindus.
An educated girl sitting in Lahore did not know that there are some Punjabi Hindus as well. And the same light is there too. So it is a matter of great regret that such cultural exchanges which should have taken place…student exchanges which should have taken place are not there…the communication which should have taken place is not there.
So it is obvious that the man who does not know anything now. Mehdi Hassan came and became very popular there. Nurjahan is very close to her when she came. Can’t say what kind of function was held there. There are people in both India and Pakistan who want peace, friendship, trade and cultural exchange in this region. And they try as much as they can. But ultimately it is the people in power who are in power, it is in their hands only. No matter how hard you try, that one incident will ruin all your efforts. I believe that people on both sides should create this pressure that whatever it is, it should be fine.
your tv Serials were very popular in India. I have also seen many. I wanted to meet many people only because I have seen their serials. So well written and so well performed. So one day a friend of mine is a film director, what should I name him? He had seen a Pakistani TV serial. So he was very surprised and happy.
He said- Javed Saheb, the roads in Pakistan are the same as they are here. So I said – what did you think that the roads of Pakistan lead directly to heaven. It will be like this only. Is there more friendship or love between you and Shabana?
During the program, Javed Akhtar was asked – Dosti hai aur Mohabbat hai aur Shabana (Javed Akhtar’s wife) hai aur dosti hai or mohabbatein? In response to this, he said – that love is not love in which there is no friendship. And that friendship and love are not true at all, in which there is no respect. And that respect is false, in which authority is not given.
I have written at one place that our friendship is such that even marriage cannot spoil it. These words jo hain na shauhar, biwi, pati-patni, husband-wife are words rolled from the mountains thousands of years ago, as they came down, a lot of moss got wrapped in it. We should think that how can two humans be happy?
