Apart from catching criminals while staying in Chandigarh Police, a police officer has been active in the field of social service for years. Sub-Inspector Rakesh Rasila is a well known name in Chandigarh.

58 year old Rasila has been donating blood for the last 40 years. At the same time, the rites of unclaimed dead bodies and the burial of dead animals are also being done. So far, about 1 thousand stray dead animals have been buried.

Rakesh Rasila has also cremated about 500 unclaimed dead bodies. His name has also been included in the Limca Book of Records for donating blood the maximum number of times across the country as a policeman.

Donated blood for the first time out of curiosity
Rakesh Rasila has donated blood 184 times so far. Rakesh Rasila told that he had donated blood for the first time in the year 1982. Then his age was 17 years. His college had organized NCC camp. During that time, out of curiosity, he donated blood for the first time. He says that donating blood is a good practice and people, especially the youth, should come forward and donate blood.

Family is also involved in service work
Rakesh Rasila says that other members of his family are also involved in blood donation. They were married in the year 1992. Wife’s serious illness was diagnosed with brain tumor. During that time the duty of Rakesh Rasila was in the Crime Branch. The wife had to be taken to PGI for treatment. In such a situation, the posting was done in PGI police post. He used to feel very sad seeing the deaths of patients in PGI due to anemia. In such a situation, the desire to donate blood to save the lives of the people got stronger and this journey went ahead.

By God’s grace, the tumor also disappeared.
Rakesh Rasila says that it was God’s grace that his wife’s brain tumor also disappeared. When his wife was suffering from this serious illness, she was pregnant. When their son was born on December 25, 1996, the tumor was missing in the test. And after that they had a daughter. Rakesh Rasila’s son is an engineer and daughter has done M.Sc Zoology and is preparing for UPSC.

Have inspired many jawans in the department
Rakesh Rasila has inspired many people for blood donation with his efforts. There are also police force personnel among them. At the same time, he also inspires his fellow policemen. Rakesh Rasila has donated blood in Chandigarh as well as in Punjab and Haryana. He has displayed his mobile number at many places and also given it on PCR. As soon as any dead animal is reported lying at a public place, Rakesh Rasila makes arrangements to bury it.

also give lectures
Rakesh Rasila said that he has also organized many lectures in colleges to answer people’s questions related to blood donation and to clear the confusion. In the year 2013, his name was recorded in the Limca Book of World Records. Till then he had donated blood 113 times. He has also received 2 State Awards and 2 Police Medals from the Chandigarh Administration. Rakesh Rasila has also received a silver disc from the hands of the DGP of Chandigarh. It is an honor given by the administration.
