The Karnataka Police has arrested a couple in connection with the robbery of a truck full of tomatoes that took place in Bengaluru on July 8. The search for three other accused has started.

The arrested couple has been identified as Bhaskar and his wife Sindhuja, residents of Vellore. The search is on for Rocky, Kumar and Mahesh in the case.

On July 8, miscreants looted a truck carrying 2,000 kg of tomatoes after threatening a farmer in Bengaluru.

The farmer was carrying tomatoes from Hiriyoor town in Chitradurga district to Kolar market. The miscreants chased the vehicle after spotting the tomatoes.

They stopped the vehicle and assaulted the farmer and the driver. The miscreants alleged that the truck hit their car.

They demanded money from the farmer and threatened him. After that get the money transferred. They boarded the truck with the farmer. Later, the miscreants forcefully pushed the farmer out and fled with the tomato-laden truck.

The accused had taken the truck to Chennai and sold tomatoes there. They parked the truck near Peenya and Bengaluru and fled in another unnumbered vehicle. Police collected clues from CCTV footage and reached the accused.

Tomatoes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were stolen from a woman’s farm in Karnataka. The thieves reached Goni Somanahalli village in Hassan district on the night of July 4 and decamped with 50-60 bags of tomatoes from the field. On the complaint of female farmer Dharini, a case of theft has been registered in Halebidu police station.

Dharini said that the theft took place when the price of tomatoes was above Rs 120 per kg and Dharini was preparing to harvest the crop and take it to the Bengaluru market.
