Jwigato marks Kapil’s first film in a lead role since 2017 release Firangi. Set in Odisha, Jwigato revolves around Manas (played by Kapil Sharma), who tries to make ends meet as a food delivery man after losing his job at a factory. Moving from Jharkhand to Odisha in the hope of a better standard of living, Manas is the sole breadwinner of a family of five, which includes his wife Pratima (played by Shahana Goswami), their two children and his ailing mother. The film focuses on the socio-economic problems faced by the working class.

News18’s review of the film reads, “Kapil seamlessly conveys the frustration of a working, middle-class man with all things clinging to him. If he can perform like this without any humorous strings, then Kapil should experiment more. Shahana as a fearless yet aspirational wife wants to make you root for her and her happiness. While film is a mirror of society, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.”

Jwigato is directed and written by Nandita Das, and produced by Applause Entertainment and Nandita Das Initiative. Nandita made her directorial debut with Firaaq, which released in 2008. He returned after a decade-long break as a director in 2018 with Manto.
