Meanwhile, one person was found infected in Kannauj district, which is the first case of Zika virus in the district, Chief Medical Officer Dr Vinod Kumar said on Sunday.
“A 45-year-old man has tested positive for Zika virus in Kapurpur Katri village of Sadar tehsil of the district. Samples of 32 people were sent for testing, and one sample has come back positive,” Kumar said. The patient’s condition is stable and is being treated at his home.
The official said the person who tested positive had recently traveled to the Shivrajpur area of ​​Kanpur.
Expressing concern over rising cases of Zika with his office, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted that the infection is spreading rapidly in Kanpur and directed for rapid testing and ramping up of hospital infrastructure.
The District Health Department has intensified the scanning and sample collection of Zika suspects in the hinterland of Chakeri. On Saturday, 13 patients had tested positive for the disease. Confirming 10 more cases on Sunday, Chief Medical Officer Dr Nepal Singh said, contact tracing teams were preparing reports on the patients. “None of the patients are critical, but we are monitoring minor and pregnant patients round the clock,” he said. District Magistrate Visakh G Iyer said that the officials of the Health Department have been ordered to go door-to-door to collect samples for surveillance and virus testing. Also, the Command and Control Center of Kanpur Municipal Corporation has been converted into Zika Control Room.
Expressing concern, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office said special precautions needed to be taken to prevent the spread of Zika. “Testing should be ramped up and hospitals should be prepared to treat patients. Health officials should ensure full cooperation of the monitoring committees,” he said.
Reviewing the health infrastructure in hospitals, the district magistrate said, Zika patients would be called twice a day to ascertain their status. Government hospitals have been put on high alert and infectious disease control operations have been intensified.
