Zambian woman arrested at Hyderabad airport for smuggling heroin worth Rs 21 crore

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said that 3.2 kg of heroin worth around Rs 21 crore was seized from a Zambian woman at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Monday. A release from the agency said DRI officials intercepted a female passenger arriving from Zambia via Johannesburg and Doha on Qatar Airways. It added that the investigation found a white powder hidden in his luggage and tested positive for the substance heroin.

The drug was confiscated and he was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, the release said.

Similarly, a week ago, a Tanzanian national was arrested for carrying 5 kg of heroin at the Kochi International Airport. The DRI arrested Tanzania on Monday morning with narcotics worth around Rs 40 crore.
