Cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested by the police on Sunday for making derogatory remarks against Scheduled Castes. He was arrested at Hansi in Haryana’s Hisar district. However, he was released on formal bail. Yuvraj is alleged to have made derogatory remarks about Yuzvendra Chahal’s caste in a live chat with Rohit Sharma last year.
Hansi Police DSP Vinod Shankar said that cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested for being involved in the investigation of the case. He has been included in the investigation twice in the past as well. The police acted on the directions of the High Court and released Yuvraj on bail bond.
Police confiscated Yuvraj’s mobile
According to police sources, the police have confiscated Yuvraj’s mobile to collect evidence in the matter of commenting on a particular class. Hansi police will now present challan against Yuvraj Singh in court. After this, Yuvraj will have to get regular bail from the special court. Yuvraj will have to appear on every date in the special court set up under the SC/ST Atrocities Act at Hisar. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 5 years in this case.

Yuvraj had arrived with security and lawyer
Yuvraj reached Hisar to join the investigation only after the order of the High Court. Along with him, 4-5 staff members including security personnel and lawyers had reached here from Chandigarh. After a few hours of action and questioning, Yuvraj left for Chandigarh.
Yuvraj accused of giving VIP treatment
In this case, the complainant Rajat Kalsan has alleged that the Haryana Police treated Yuvraj Singh as a VIP. Policemen were seen posing for selfies with him. Apart from the treatment of one of the accused, they were fed juices and snacks in the gazetted officer’s mess. Also, this thing was deliberately kept away from the media. The complainant has challenged in the Supreme Court the decision of Punjab Haryana High Court granting interim bail to Yuvraj Singh in this case. The hearing on that is still pending.

In the case, Hansi police had registered a case against Yuvraj Singh against SC/ST Atrocities Act on the complaint of Rajat Kalsan. Yuvraj Singh filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court to get the case dismissed. During the hearing of the petition, the High Court had ordered the Haryana Police not to take any action against Yuvraj Singh.
