YouTube Shorts now has over 1 billion viewers worldwide

YouTube has confirmed that more than 1.5 billion logged-in users are now watching Shorts every month, less than two years after its launch. Shorts was initially launched in select countries, and has now expanded its reach to more markets, as the platform grows in popularity and userbase.

Related to its new milestone, according to TechCrunch, YouTube also promoted Shorts’ ability to drive viewers to creators’ long-form video channels as a byproduct of their investment in Shorts.

According to the report, it’s referring to the trend as “the rise of the multiformat creator,” but in reality, it’s an acknowledgment that YouTube still sees more value in its long-form content.

The company, in its announcement, has positioned its video platform as a platform that better reflects the reality of today’s viewers, engaging with video at different times and locations throughout the day.

In some cases, users will want to quickly scroll through short content, such as hitting time when out and about. The report states that at other times, they may be able to watch for longer and will turn to traditional YouTube videos to do so.
