The Nemom police have arrested a 22-year-old man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly raping a minor girl, stated a press note issued by city police commissioner G Sparjan Kumar here on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nemom police have arrested a 22-year-old man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly raping a minor girl, stated a press note issued by city police commissioner G Sparjan Kumar here on Sunday.
Sanooj, a resident of Karimadom Colony at Chala, was arrested for raping the girl after promising to marry her. The girl, after realizing that she was cheated, informed her parents about it and registered a complaint.
The accused later went absconding. Based on information received by Fort ACP Shaji, a team of police headed by station house officer Rageesh Kumar, sub-inspectors Vipin, Prasad, Rakesh and Vijayan, assistant sub-inspectors Padmakumar and Sreekumar and civil police officers Manimeghala, Abhiram and Giri arrested him from his hide out.
Sanooj was earlier arrested on similar charges, said the police. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody .
