Youth arrested for murdering construction worker in Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a 24-year-old youth on Monday for murdering a construction worker at Konavaikkalpalayam near Vellalore.
The arrested youth has been identified as S Davidraja of Boyar Street at Konavaikkalpalayam. He was running a fish shop near the Vellalore Housing unit.
Police said Davidraja consumed alcohol on Sunday night and was walking back home. He noticed M Kandasamy, 30, a construction worker, and his friend, N Saravanan, 40, chatting with each other at the Boyar Street junction around 11pm.
Davidraja questioned Saravanan for sitting in the locality late at night. He picked up a quarrel with him. Davidraja slapped Saravanan. Kandasamy intervened and asked Davidraja to go home. Davidraja took a log from the ground and assaulted Kandasamy on his head. He punched Kandasamy’s chest repeatedly.
Kandasamy was struggling to breathe. Kandasamy was taken to a private hospital by his family members in an autorickshaw. Doctors checked him and declared him dead.
Villagers alerted the police control room. A team of police from Podanur station hastened to the spot. By then, Davidraja went absconding.
The Podanur police registered a murder case against Davidraja and arrested him on Monday afternoon.
