Karnataka is heading towards elections and both BJP and Congress are targeting each other on issues like price rise, corruption, terrorism, communalism, caste based politics and non-performance.
Karnataka politics has become a stage of theatrics and symbolism, with Congress leaders wearing marigolds on their ears to present the budget on Friday.
They allege that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has cheated and fooled the people by not fulfilling the promises made in the 2018 manifesto. A common Kannada phrase – ‘kivimelehova’ – (flower on the ear) means one is fooling the other. So when a person feels he is being fooled, the common analogy in Kannada is “stop putting a flower in my ear”.
Hence the flowers on the ears to protest.

While the Karnataka Congress has been attacking the ruling BJP on several fronts including corruption, casteism and communalism, the BJP has left no stone unturned to target the Congress over its ties with the Popular Front. Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala on Thursday attacked the government led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, saying it was built on defections and corruption and has become anathema to ‘Brand Karnataka’.
As the term of the ‘Brashtasur Bommai Sarkar’ comes to an end, it leaves behind an endless tail of broken promises and shattered dreams as well as loot of public money. Integrity, accountability and governance have been publicly suspended by the BJP government in Karnataka.
Congress also attacked the Bommai government for not fulfilling the promises made in the last budget and asked Bommai to answer six questions for 6.5 crore Kannadigas.
