Sunday’s clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was yet another last-over thriller of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 that left the viewers glued to their TV screens. With 41 runs required off the last 12 balls, SRH batsman Glenn Phillips brought a twist in the tale with a hat-trick of sixes followed by a four against RR’s Kuldeep Yadav. Although he lost his wicket after scoring 22 runs in the first four balls, he did his job brilliantly.
But the drama unfolded on the final delivery of the last over when fast bowler Sandeep Sharma nearly dismissed Abdul Samad to win the match. The SRH batsman was caught by Buttler at the long-off boundary while RR supporters and the dugout erupted in joy. That’s why the umpire gave his hand towards the side, calling it a no ball.

SRH are almost out of the playoff race but their win means a third straight defeat for the Royals. Former India opener Aakash Chopra, who is one of the IPL experts on JioCinema, said that if one steps out in such a scenario, one will have to face the consequences.
“He took that catch and thought it was over, but it is a game of margin and when you overstep you lose the margin. If you cross the limit, you will have to face the consequences,” Chopra he said.
The former cricketer also talked about fast bowler Kuldeep Sen, who went for 24 runs in the last over, giving SRH the upper hand.

“We discussed how one decision can be the difference between victory and defeat. Who bowled the 19th over? If anyone had to, it would have been Sandeep Sharma or Obed McCoy. Kuldeep Yadav could have bowled, I am not saying he can’t be better or average, but the truth is he shouldn’t have bowled that over,” Chopra said.
The Royals scored 214/2 in 20 overs, with Jos Buttler scoring 95 and skipper Sanju Samson scoring an unbeaten 66. SRH batsmen kept a firm eye on the target with opener Abhishek Sharma scoring 55 runs. The game eventually turned into a thriller on the last ball, where Abdul Samad hit medium pacer Sandeep Sharma for a six to get his side over the line.
