Yogi, Pankaj Singh in one lakh+ club: 10 candidates with massive victories in 2022 assembly elections

Riding the saffron wave, the BJP registered massive victories in four of the five states in the assembly elections that were held for more than a month. The results, declared on Thursday, marked a historic victory for the party in the politically important state of Uttar Pradesh. Here, the BJP is making a comeback after more than three decades for a second term.

Not only this, the victory of BJP created two national records. From Sahibabad assembly constituency, Sunil Kumar Sharma of BJP won by over two lakh votes, creating the record for the highest ever winning margin. This time also this seat has the maximum number of voters. The incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also won the Gorakhpur Urban seat by a margin of over one lakh votes.

Here is the list of top 10 candidates who have registered a margin of one lakh or more in the assembly elections:

  1. Sunil Kumar Sharma, BJP
    The BJP candidate from Sahibabad won by a margin of 2,14,835 votes, the highest ever. He secured 3,22,882 votes and defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Amarpal Sharma.
  2. Pankaj Singh, BJP
    Sitting MLA Pankaj Singh this time managed to increase his vote margin from 1.04 lakh in 2017. He won from Noida by a margin of 1,81,513 votes and defeated Sunil Choudhary of SP by 2,44,319 votes.
  3. Amit Agarwal, BJP
    Amit Agarwal of BJP got 1,62,032 votes by winning from Meerut Cantonment by a margin of 1,18,072 votes.
  4. Purushottam Khandelwal, BJP
    From Agra North, BJP candidate got 1,53,817 votes and defeated BSP candidate Shabbir Abbas by a margin of 1,12,370 votes.
  5. Manohar Lal, BJP
    BJP candidate from Mehroni seat Lal got 1,84,778 votes and won by a margin of 1,10,451 votes.
  6. Shrikant Sharma, BJP
    BJP candidate from Mathura defeated Congress candidate Pradeep Mathur by 1,09,803 votes. He got 1,58,859 votes.
  7. Ramratan Kushwaha, BJP
    The BJP candidate from Lalitpur defeated his BSP rival by 1,07,215 votes and got a total of 1,76,550 votes.
  8. Atul Garg, BJP
    The winner of Ghaziabad constituency defeated Vishal Verma of SP by 1,05,537 votes.
  9. Yogi Adityanath, BJP
    Incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath defeated Subhavati Upendra Dutt Shukla of SP by a margin of 1,03,390 votes. Most likely to be crowned CM once again, Adityanath got a total of 1,65,499 votes.
  10. Anjula Singh Mahaur, BJP
    In the crucial Hathras constituency also, BJP candidate Anjula Singh Mahour defeated Sanjeev Kumar of BSP by a margin of 1,00,856 votes. Mahour got 1,54,655 votes.

Highest margin of victory in other states

Punjab: Aman Arora of AAP defeated his Congress rival Jaswinder Singh Dhiman by 75,277 votes in Sunam assembly constituency by a total of 94,794 votes.

Uttarakhand: BJP’s Brij Bhushan Gairola defeated Congress candidate Gaurav Ginni by a margin of 29,021 votes.

Manipur: SS Olish of BJP won from Chandel Assembly Constituency by a margin of 27,341 votes.

Goa: BJP’s Deviya Vishwajit Rane defeated AAP candidate Vishwajit Rane from Poriem by 13,943 votes.
