Yogi cabinet expansion possible by the end of August, Jitin Prasad may join as Brahmin face

The three-hour-long meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s top leadership with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Delhi has once again given rise to speculations of a cabinet reshuffle in the state. The CM reached the national capital on Thursday evening and left for the meeting directly at the residence of the Union Home Minister. Amit Shah. BJP national president JP Nadda, party’s state president Swatantra Dev Singh and organization general secretary Sunil Bansal were also present on the occasion. Sources say that there was a detailed discussion on the proposed expansion of the Yogi cabinet, among other things, regarding the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh early next year. Sources also said that this reshuffle may happen in the last week of August.

It is being said that about six to seven ministers can be added to the Yogi cabinet. One of the most prominent names in this list is that of Congress turncoat Jitin Prasada. The former Union minister in the United Progressive Alliance government joined the BJP a few months back and is said to be a big Brahmin face, something the saffron party has been demanding for some time in UP amid growing resentment among sections of the community. .

The hurdle for the BJP is that Prasad is not yet a member of the Legislative Council or the Legislative Assembly.

Sources also said that another meeting under Yogi’s leadership could be held in Lucknow by the end of this week to decide the final form of the cabinet reshuffle, after which the list would be sent to the central leadership for the seal of approval.

BJP is all set to win the crucial elections of Uttar Pradesh and retain power. In the last one month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda have visited. To mobilize the party cadre, the BJP will launch a Panna Pramukh convention for election booth level workers in the last week of next month.

From September, many leaders will be sent to Uttar Pradesh for various programs and to motivate party workers for elections.

Top sources also told CNN-News18 that from October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state from where he has been elected to Parliament at least once a month.

The BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 after overthrowing the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government. The saffron party got an absolute majority to form the government in India’s most populous state.
