Yashwant Sinha files nomination for President’s post Rahul said: Here’s what he said about Gandhi in the past

Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Singham of the Bharatiya Janata Party had Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by his side when he filed his nomination as a joint opposition presidential candidate on Monday.

Sinha, who used to be one of the tallest leaders of the BJP, has become a staunch critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recent years. But the Bihar politician, who recently joined the Trinamool Congress and then quit to contest the presidential election, doesn’t always have flattering things to say about the Congress and the Gandhi family.

In April 2013, Sinha said that the then United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi should ask Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to resign and hold fresh elections due to poor management of the economy.

“I would like to appeal to Sonia Gandhi that her team of economic managers has performed very poorly. They have not been able to control inflation for the last four years. They have performed so poorly that the only way out of the current impasse is through elections.

Sinha said the country is being taken “for a ride” as it is doing “badly” on the economic front.

That is why I am issuing this appeal to Sonia Gandhi. Please ask the Prime Minister to tender his resignation. There is no point in continuing this government,” he said.

In August of the same year, the BJP attacked the Gandhi family and the Congress over Robert Vadra’s alleged fraudulent land deals, with Sinha leading the charge.

“We have many good business schools in the world as well as in India, which teach private businessmen how to earn crores. But in our country we have a very well connected person who has not gone to B-school but has earned crores”, he said in Lok Sabha.

In February 2014, just before the Lok Sabha elections, Sinha took a dig at the functioning of the Congress-led UPA government, saying that Rahul Gandhi The “new Superman” and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was a “tragic person”.

“Mr Rahul Gandhi has emerged as the new Superman for the UPA government; His every word is an order,” he said at an interaction session organized by the Karnataka unit of the BJP.

“What kind of leader can Dr Manmohan Singh be considered? India When he is not even considered as the leader of his party. I cannot imagine a parliamentary party meeting that is in the government where the Prime Minister is not presiding it, but someone else is presiding- Sonia Gandhi in this (scenario),” he said.

Months later, in May 2014, Sinha launched a scathing attack on the Congress through an article on ndtv.comIn which he specifically targeted the Gandhi family.

“When all her conspiracies failed and neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi could match the charismatic appeal of Narendra Modi, Priyanka was brought into the fray,” he wrote.

“If Priyanka Vadra is so charismatic, what’s stopping Sonia Gandhi from projecting her as her successor in the Congress party instead of Rahul Gandhi, who just refuses to pick up steam?” He added. “As far as the Nehru-Gandhi family is concerned, their emotional pitch is extremely childish. His understanding of the Indian political situation is nothing more than the tutorials he received from Congress party leaders. Her father’s defense reflects nothing more than the daughter’s emotional feelings for her father. But, clearly Priyanka Vadra crossed the red line when she replied Narendra Modi Accused him of ‘neech’ politics.”

And with Rahul Gandhi accompanying him on Monday, it is worth remembering that, relatively recently, in 2019, Sinha said the Congress leader should abide by his decision to step down as party president or “public presumption”. You must take the risk of losing. Rahul had made the announcement after his party’s disastrous performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, in which it got only 52 seats.

“If Rahul Gandhi does not stick to his resignation, he will suffer more in public,” he said. Let the party run from the Presidium or any other arrangement, at least for the time being,” tweeted Sinha on May 30, 2019.
