Yad Vashem calls on world leaders: ‘Declare war against antisemitism’

Yad Vashem on Wednesday called on world leaders to fight antisemitism, declare war on it, and fight with actions instead of words, according to Israeli media.

When speaking about the recent attack by a pro-Palestinian protester against a 69-year-old Jewish man from Los Angeles, Yad Vashem Chairman Danny Dayan said, “This event emphasizes the need to declare an all-out war on antisemitism and instruct the law enforcement authorities to join hands and take operative actions.”

“The Holocaust did not begin with Einsatzgruppen squads and the gas chambers, but with words and small acts of violence, which was supported by the public,” he continued. “Today, we once again see public indifference towards antisemitic events. We must not allow indifference or be satisfied with words.”

Dayan concludes, “Only when the statements, policies, and actions permeate every aspect of global society will we be able to protect the shared values and the Jewish communities from the scourge of antisemitism that is spreading.”
