WFI Election: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections are due to be held on July 6. Disputes within state bodies
It is learned that some state units which were earlier disbanded by WFI have staked claim to participate in the elections. The wrestlers called off their agitation till June 15 after Sports Minister Thakur assured the wrestlers that the government would not allow any family member or associate of WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to contest the elections.
WFI has 25 affiliated units, covering the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Delhi. Each state unit may send two delegates and each delegate shall have one vote.
Therefore, there will be 50 votes in the electoral college for WFI elections. According to the WFI constitution, state units can only nominate representatives who are members of their executive bodies.
